This guide is for users that have already attempted to pair their meshpoints (or their router as a mesh point) following the Quick Start Guides provided in the Documentation section. If you have not attempted pairing yet, please start there and only follow this article if the pairing fails.
If your mesh point(s) have disconnected themselves from your router, the pairing protocol might need to be realigned between the mesh points and the router. The troubleshooting steps are different for mesh points that came with the router in the AmpliFi HD kit (AFI-HD) for example and the mesh points that are sold separately (AFI-P-HD). Please find the troubleshooting steps for each type of mesh point below. This article applies to all our product lines (AmpliFi HD, Instant, Gamer and Alien lines).
Warning If the MeshPoints are part of a kit system they cannot be paired with a router other than the one they came with in the kit.
Troubleshooting MeshPoints from a Kit
- While plugged into power, factory reset the mesh point(s) that has become disconnected. This can be done by inserting a paperclip into the factory reset hole and holding down the reset button on the mesh point power supply for ten seconds. You will hear a high pitched beep emit from the mesh point when the factory reset has been properly performed, or the bottom LED will be solid, while other LEDs are off.. Once you hear this sound, you can let go of the paperclip.
- After the mesh point(s) has been factory reset, perform the same step on the router. It is important that the mesh point be factory reset before the router. The router can be factory reset through the AmpliFi smartphone app settings or by inserting a paperclip into the factory reset pinhole located at the bottom of the router. Hold down for five seconds until the front screen of the AmpliFi router says "Rebooting...".
- After both the mesh point(s) and the router have been factory reset, set them back up following the initial setup wizard using the AmpliFi smartphone app. If you need help with initial install, please see our AmpliFi User Guide.
After performing these steps, the pairing protocol of both the AmpliFi router and the mesh point(s) should be realigned.
Troubleshooting Standalone MeshPoints
Note The Process is the same for AmpliFi Alien routers being used as MeshPoints.
