It is important to understand the difference between the ports on the back of AmpliFi equipment.
Routers have a WAN port and LAN ports, the WAN (Wide Area Network) port is for the incoming internet connection from your modem or fiber, it is usually represented by having a little globe (internet) icon. The LAN (Local Area Network) ports are for providing internet from the AmpliFi router to your wired devices via an Ethernet cable. All ports on AmpliFi devices are gigabit ports.
AmpliFi HD
On the back of the HD router there are 4 LAN ports and 1 WAN port. These can be distinguished by the color of the port and a symbol. The WAN port is a blue color with a globe above it whereas the LAN ports are not colored and numbered 1-4.
AmpliFi Gamer's Edition
The Gamer's Edition has 4 LAN ports and 1 WAN port. These can be distinguished by the color of the port and a symbol. The WAN port is a green color with a globe above it whereas the LAN ports are not colored and numbered 1-4.
AmpliFi Instant
The Instant router has 1 LAN port and 1 WAN port. The WAN port is blue with a globe above it whereas the LAN port is not colored and has a symbol of 2 arrows above it.
AmpliFi Alien
The AmpliFi Alien has 4 LAN ports and 1 WAN port. The 4 LAN ports are located on the back of the router, the WAN port is located on the bottom of the router near the power outlet.
